First-Time VI Peel? How to Prepare, What to Expect

Quick details: VI Peel | 30 minutes | Starting at $250 | Appointment only | Free parking | Card payments | Buy now, pay later
“Tolu is wonderful. She is so friendly and accommodating” is something I hear a lot, and it matters when you’re nervous about your first chemical peel. If you’re feeling a little unsure, that’s normal. The good news is a VI Peel appointment is straightforward and quick, and you’ll leave with a clear plan for the next 7 to 10 days.
Here’s the simple truth: a VI Peel is a professional chemical peel that usually takes about 20 to 45 minutes, and it causes controlled peeling for about 3 to 7 days. You’ll typically feel tingling or stinging during application, then you’ll have a planned “flake week.” If you follow aftercare and stay serious about SPF, most people start noticing clearer, smoother-looking skin within 1 to 4 weeks.
Your VI Peel prep checklist (3 to 7 days before)
Prep is not complicated, but it does matter. When you do these few things ahead of time, peeling is usually more predictable and your skin tends to look calmer through the process.
Bring this up at your appointment: any history of cold sores (I’ll tell you if you should ask your primary care doctor about an antiviral beforehand), any new products you’ve started, and any big event date you’re planning around.
- Pause retinoids and strong acids for about 3 to 7 days beforehand. That includes retinol, tretinoin, and stronger exfoliating acids. If you’re not sure what counts, tell me what you’re using and I’ll translate it.
- Avoid tanning and heavy sun exposure right before your peel. Katy’s long sunny seasons make this one easy to underestimate. A recent sunburn can make the peel feel spicier than it needs to.
- Skip waxing and aggressive scrubs on the area we’re treating for about a week beforehand. Think gentle, not “let me really get in there.”
- Plan your schedule so you’re not trying to look perfectly photo-ready during days 3 to 6. If you’re coming in from Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, Richmond, Brookshire, Weston Lakes, or another part of Katy, give yourself enough travel time so you’re not rushed.
Inside your 30-minute VI Peel appointment in Old Towne Katy
When you arrive, I’ll start by looking at your skin and asking a few direct questions about what you want to change. Tone? Texture? Post-acne marks? Fine lines? The VI Peel is versatile and works well across skin types, and we’ll talk through what makes sense for your goals.
Then I cleanse and prep your skin so the peel solution applies evenly. Application is quick, and most people feel mild to moderate stinging or tingling that comes and goes. Numbing is rarely needed for this kind of peel, and I’ll keep checking in with you the whole time.
“My first time getting Botox. I was feeling nervous, but she was very professional and explained everything to me. I felt at ease and will be coming back.”
A first-time client
Different service, same vibe. I don’t do silent appointments where you’re left wondering what’s happening. I’ll tell you what you may feel, what’s normal, and what would be unusual. You’ll leave with aftercare instructions and a realistic peeling timeline, not a vague “you might peel.”
Comfort and privacy
I keep things calm, clean, and professional. Our space is wheelchair accessible and kid friendly, and everything is appointment only so you’re not sitting in a crowded waiting room.
Time expectations
A lot of people love that they’re in and out fast. You’ll still get my full attention, but the appointment itself is efficient, which is huge for busy parents and professionals.

Your 7 to 10-day VI Peel peeling schedule (realistic, not scary)
Peeling is the plan. I’d rather you expect it and schedule smart than feel surprised on day three. The exact pace varies, but this is a common pattern.
Day-by-day: what you’ll usually notice
- Day 0 (peel day): skin often looks a little tight or shiny. Mild redness can happen. Tingling fades after application.
- Day 1 to 2: tightness and dryness increase. This is when people want to exfoliate. Don’t. Let it do its thing.
- Day 3 to 5: peeling and flaking usually start, often around the mouth and nose first, then spreading. Makeup can cling. Plan lighter.
- Day 6 to 7: most of the peeling slows down. You may still have small flakes and sensitivity.
- Day 8 to 10: skin typically looks smoother and more even. Some people still feel a little dry, especially if they’re outside a lot.
In Katy summers, humidity plus heat can make you feel like you need a long shower or a sweaty workout to “shake it off.” Try to avoid heavy sweating, saunas, and pools until you’re healed. Pool season is fun, but chlorine and sun are not your peel’s best friends.
Aftercare that protects your results (and prevents the “why am I still peeling?” panic)
Right after your VI Peel, your skin can feel warm, tight, and dry. That’s normal. The biggest mistakes I see are picking, over-cleansing, and going right back to strong actives too soon.
Keep it simple for the first week
- Cleanse gently with a mild, non-stripping cleanser. No scrubby tools.
- Moisturize with a fragrance-free moisturizer so your skin stays comfortable while it flakes.
- Do not pick or peel at lifting skin. If a piece is hanging, trim it carefully instead of pulling.
- Wear SPF 30+ daily and reapply if you’re outside. This is non-negotiable, especially around Old Towne Katy when you’re walking Main Street or spending time outdoors.
Rebooking timing: Many people do a series for stubborn concerns like acne scarring or texture, then maintain. I’ll tell you what makes sense for your skin after I see how you respond to the first peel.
Scheduling a VI Peel around weddings, photos, and Katy weather
If you have a wedding, vacation, or big event, don’t squeeze your first peel in at the last minute. Peeling isn’t painful for most people, but it’s visible. A safer window is usually 3 to 4 weeks before your event, so your skin has time to finish flaking and settle into that smoother look.
If you’re new to chemical peels, I also recommend booking on a week where you can keep your schedule flexible for a few days. Midweek appointments are popular for that reason, especially if you want to pop into the Old Towne Katy area near the historic Katy Townsite and Main Street commercial district while you’re already out.
Pool season tip
If you know you’ll be outside a lot, plan your peel for a quieter week. Sun and chlorine can irritate healing skin and mess with the evenness you’re trying to get.
Rainy week tip
Late-season storms can push errands and outdoor time around. That’s actually a decent time for a peel since you’re less tempted to be out in strong sun.
My “first peel” advice that keeps you calm on day 3
Here’s what I’ll tell you прямо: don’t judge your peel too early. Day 3 to 5 is the awkward part. That’s normal, and it’s exactly why I’m very clear with timing and aftercare. Also, if finances are part of your decision, bring it up. People appreciate that I’m easy to talk to and I’ll help you pick a plan you can actually keep up with.
If you’re ready to talk through your skin goals, I’d love to see you. We’re appointment only, with free parking, and our space is set up to be comfortable and accessible. Call +13462143522 or email info@dripsandglow.com, and tell me what you’re hoping your chemical peel will improve. I’ll guide you to the right next step.
